Greg Tassell was born into a farming family in Goudhurst, Kent and was a chorister at Durham Cathedral. He later read music at Exeter University and studied singing at the Royal Academy of Music under Ryland Davies. Whilst at RAM he reached the final of the 2008 London Handel Competition, appeared in masterclasses with the late Robert Tear and most notably performed the premiere of Richard Rodney Bennett’s Lost Songs at the 2008 London Guitar Festival. He was a young artist for Retrospect Ensemble under Matthew Halls in their series of concerts at the Wigmore Hall in 2008-10 and toured Israel with Purcell’s The Fairy Queen.

Greg continued his operatic training in the chorus of English Touring Opera where he sung the roles of 2nd Priest (Magic Flute), Don Curzio (Figaro), Mr Badger (Fantastic Mr Fox) and Songvendor (Il Tabarro) over three seasons and worked closely with director James Conway and MD Michael Rosewell. Greg also appeared in numerous operas designed for children with Special Needs, most notably The Midnight Moon which was performed at the Philharmonie in Luxembourg in June/July 2011 under the direction of Tim Yealland.
